PWM / ARCO

Houston, TX (May 24, 2023) - PWM, the global leader in electronic price signs and profit boards® for convenience stores, is proud to announce that its 8+ years partnership with Marathon/ARCO will continue.

“We are so pleased to continue our partnership with Marathon/ARCO,” said PWM President & CEO Wolfgang Manz. “There are already more than 1,000 ARCO’s and ampm convenience stores outfitted with PWM hybrid technology. Our goal is to continue serving these valuable customers with excellence, in everything we do, and provide unparalleled support after each installment.”

About PWM

Houston-based PWM has contracted and partnered with every major brand around the globe to provide cutting-edge electronic pricing solutions.

PWM’s parent company in Germany has been in business for more than 200 years, with subsidiary PWM Inc. opening in Texas in 2002.

Convenience store owners have taken advantage of the combination of German engineering and American assembly and customer service with technological advances such as:

  • 2002: Development and launch of the first SMD digits.

  • 2007: Development of the first mass-produced price signs with white digits.

  • 2009: Development of the first IP67 waterproof digits.

  • 2014: Development and market launch of the first outline digits.
  • 2019: Launched TRACK and Hybrid - "The cloud-based" signage.

  • 2022: Launched Dooh-It - "The cloud-based" marketing tool.

“PWM fully develops all its own technologies and products, which guarantees the highest quality,” said Manz. “Our sign modules are wind and water-resistant and can withstand any climate zone. Our focus on quality and durability is just one of the reasons that companies such as Marathon/ARCO choose PWM price signs.”

About Marathon/ARCO

In 1887, several small oil companies banded together to form The Ohio Oil Company. From this humble beginning, evolved today’s Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) is a leading, integrated, downstream energy company headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. The company operates the nation’s largest refining system with more than 3 million barrels per calendar day of crude oil capacity across 16 refineries.

For over 50 years, ARCO has built an undeniable reputation for delivering quality fuel at a fair price. ARCO’s iconic logo first appeared in 1970 after the merger of Atlantic Refining and Richfield Oil.

Atlantic Richfield became the first major oil company to combine food stores and gasoline sales with the establishment in 1978 of ARCO’s ampm convenience stores.

After Atlantic Richfield was purchased by BP in 2000, the ARCO brand was bought by Tesoro in 2013. Tesoro rebranded as Andeavor in 2017 and merged with Marathon in 2018.

Today there are over 1,000 ampm franchise locations in the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. In addition to those five states, ARCO’s 1,500+ fuel stations can also be found in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

PWM and ARCO Strategic Alliances Started in 2016

PWM’s strategic alliance with ARCO began in 2016 as ARCO, with newly released brand standards, wanted to give its affiliates a chance to take advantage of PWM’s white SMD technology, which was unique in the price sign market.

“PWM’s superior product quality and customer support, along with the benefits SMD provides, will allow our station affiliates to be highly visible, reflect the quality ARCO stands for and save energy at the same time,” said ARCO’s brand manager in 2016, Bill Crader.

A wider viewing angle, reduced energy consumption and longer lifespans are just some of the benefits SMD LED provides when compared to traditional LED technology.

Fast forward eight years later and more than 1,000 Marathon/ARCO stations have taken advantage of PWM’s hybrid technology. PWM’s EASY Hybrid allows for:

  • Fast and affordable retrofit.

  • Cloud-based flexibility.

  • Control via web interface from anywhere.

  • Gather status information and maintenance data.

“Fuel stations that don’t want to make the change to full digitalization of their display system just yet, can upgrade to EASY Hybrid with little effort and at low costs,” said Manz. “PWM’s Retrofit concept enables fuel stations to modernize their display system without investing in a new set-up, and the upgrade is fast with no downtime.”
